Message from Chair

Beverly Becenti-Pigman

I welcome you on behalf of the Navajo Nation Human Research Review Board. The Navajo Nation Human Research Review Board was formed in March 1996 to guarantee ethical research for the Diné People.

We are an independent Tribal Institutional Review Board exercising our sovereign rights to regulate, monitor and control all research within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation.

We also function as the IRB for the Navajo Area Indian Health Service. It is our responsibility to facilitate a culturally respectful process as we bridge Navajo Nation knowledge and science with Western knowledge and science.

By bridging these reciprocal relationships, we promote local capacity building and training opportunities that benefit Navajo Nation.

The Mission of the Navajo Nation Human Research Review Board is to support research that promotes and enhances the interest and the visions of the Navajo People.
